Question [Resolved] windows 98 won't work

Hi all,

Have older pc with windows 98 os. It is not connected to the internet. When I tried to reboot (after it froze), it appears like it is starting, but comes up with the illegal operation message. I have tried using my start-up disk and when it didn't work, a friend suggested using bootdisk.com to download a disk.....I've tried that also & it doesn't help.

I would appreciate any help anyone could offer.

Thank you

Aunt Bee

After reboot:
1st screen:Wallpaper is in center w/blue frame & pop-up: "Enter Network Password" screen...I close it as I always have done.

Next comes the "EXPLORER" pop-up: "this program has preformed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor"

Details:
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module EXPLORER.EXE at 0167:00401F31

Ok, first please download THIS and create a bootable floppy disk with it. Switch the PC on with that disk in the drive and when you finally come to the A: prompt, type in the following.

c:\windows\command\scanreg /restore
as it appears with the space. Hit enter and pick a date before you were having this trouble.

I tried your instructions and there was no change....(no A prompt appeared)

I tried rebooting with a CD disk and with a floppy disk. The computer doesn't seem to read the CD drive or the floppy drive.

Also if it is any help, when I reboot, the only program listed in the close program window is: Lexpps
