Default [Pending] How to install standby option

The other day this screen popped up and without reading it carefully I clicked "yes". The next thing I knew my option to put my computer in standby was gone when I went to the start and then shutdown screen. How do I get it back?

Welcome to the forum. Clicking anything without first understanding the implications is very dangerous for your PC. You can try the System File Checker link in my signature first.

It may just be a simple setting thats been disabled by accident. If you go to Start >>> Control Panel >>> Power Options >>> Hibernation Tab, see if the box has a tick in it. If it has could you try going to Start >>> Shutdown and hold the Shift key and post back what appears under the yellow box eg (Standby or Hibernate)

Thanks for trying to help Madgamer, but I'm not seeing this hybernation tab that you are talking about. When I get to power options there are 5 tabs across the top which say "power setting", "alarm", "power meter", "details", and "DS-XG power management". By the way, I'm using windows 98 in Japanese and I just translated those words in quotes so they may not be exactly equivalent to the English version, but basically the set up of windows is the same in any language, right?

After that I tried shutting down like you said while holding the shift key. Nothing happened. The computer just shut down as normal. Please try to crack this mystery for me if you can so that I can give you some "thanks" props.
