Default [Resolved] Need Help Saving PC (ME)

My older PC (Dell XPS) runs on ME and doesn't work anymore. The problem started when i got a virus, which in turn lead to a ton of spyware. Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, etc didn't fix the problem, so I turned to the SWI forums, where I tried to get it fixed.

I followed all the steps correctly as far as I know, and after I rebooted, all that came up on the screen was a black screen with the one blinking dash thing _. That's all it does every time I boot up and I can get no response with anything. Did I... delete something essential or something? Can this be resolved with software, or will I have to replace something within my PC?

Thanks for responding. I'm pretty sure I have the disc, although I'll have to do some digging for it. Will I need to install that?

If you have corrupted the ME installation then a repair install should get you back up and running again. The easiest way to do this is to run the install again - over the top of your existing installation - that way you will not lose any files or documents etc that are already on the PC. Follow this guide and make a bootable WinME CD...this will then allow you to put the CD in the drive, switch on the PC and the install will start automatically. You will NOT want to delete or re-create ANY partitions or format the drive!

I finished the instructions, and the problem occurred on the startup where I was supposed to be finished. I think I did it all correctly, but I may have missed something.

As for my install disc, I have the Windows ME upgrade disc, which I'll have to see if it works.

Have you also tried to boot in safemode again? Or does that also doesn't work.

And when you have the blackscreen with the blinking cursor, can you type anything?
