Well yes I have tried that forum to no avail. I had another idea that might be good, but i'm not sure. Old USRobotics modems used a serial to parallel adapter would this adapter work better? I can get a converter to make this cable connect. Would that be easier?

That is an EXCELLENT question, unfortunately, I do not have the answer to that one.

I am going to put in another call to the hardware gurus and see if any of them have any practical experience with manipulating a serial port.

Did you have a chance to look at the PCI Serial cards? Might give you another options.

Sorry Tek Tips wasn't any help.

Looking forward to your reply,

Hey CHrisg131,
Welcome to the site,
I think I might have found a solution for you, I'll have to look more into the actual implementation but you might be able to do some research yourself too. There is a way to run DOS or 16-bit apps on NT based pc's.
It is called NTVDM (NT virtual DOS Machine).

Thank you guys for the help. I had a question about that dos box. I have tried several, and it won't let me load the program. Would you think that that was because I had the wrong version or type, or would that be because the program doesnt' like it? If anyone wants a copy of the files on the boot disk, including xu2000 i can send it to you. If that would help.

Thanks
Chris

Just something to try (in Windows XP)
Go to the main setup or .exe file that starts the program running,
Right click on the icon, click on "properties"
The 3rd tab along should be "compatibility" click on that.
In the first window there is a tick box called "compatibility mode", tick that and then select "windows98/windows me" from the pulldown menu.
Click on "apply" then "ok"
Try running the program
I have attached a pic of what you're looking for
All the best

Ok, well that ran the program, but the coms still don't work. Can I send someone the program to mess with?? I have all the setting right, but i can't make the coms work, not just on the adapter, but in XP at all.

Hey Chris,

I'm still advocating the 98 dual boot, or you could mess around with a different PC with 98 on it, I just don't see it happening with an NT based system if the program is dependant on DOS.

How big is the program? Maybe we could upload it somewhere where folks could have a go when they have time.

Looking forward to your reply,
