Unhappy [Resolved] Windows ME & MS Update

Okay - standalone PC using Win Me - on accessing MS Updates the following message now appears:

"Administrators Only

To install items from Windows Update, you must be logged on as an
administrator or a member of the Administrators group. If your computer is
connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from
completing this procedure." etc etc...........

So can't update. access via 56k modem, nothing else involved, no sign of Malware, Spyware etc..

I could add a user & see what happens but I'd rather not...

Over to you gurus please

Hi elpmek!

Are there multiple users on your computer?
Do you know whether some accounts have other rights than other accounts or not?

Blue

Unhappy

The address you gave refers to Windows 2000. This operating system is Win Me. Have searched MS for similiar relevant articles to no avail.

So still stuck, can't update, sigle user standalone PC. Can't find anywhere in user profile to change permissions to Administrator (I'm pretty sure have full authority anyway)

Windows 2000 and ME have many identical aspects - you may like to try the instructions descripted in the MS article to see if they work for you. If not, I'm sure we can work something out.
