Default [Resolved] Installing windows 98 se.

I have a clean hard drive and I am trying to install windows 98 se.

I made a boot up disk but it says not a system disk.

What could be wrong? Does anyone know where I can get a real working boot disk that they know works?

Also I have another I am doing the same thing.

It just won't boot from the disk drive or the cd rom it just bypasses them and goes to the hd no matter what I have it set on. Its a really old dell optiplex or whatever.

Basically I want to format the drive and put 98se back on there what would anyone recomend the best way to do that?

Would using a boot disk then formatting and then installing it be the best way? If so would c:\format format the hard drive?

Hi.

You should be able to boot from your windows 98 se disk. But check that in the BIOS, the boot order is set right

You need the Floppy Disk drive to be the first boot device in the BIOS.

yup , booting from the cd is the easiest way if the cd is bootable and the bootorder is set to boot from cd.

Best is A=floppie B=cd/dvd C=HD.

Have a look here for instruction to install win98 when booting of the cd:
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/win9...exfullpage.htm

And here for installing with the use of a bootdisk incase youre cd isn't bootable:
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/win9...exfullpage.htm

And if needed you can get a bootdisk from the link to bootdisk.com in my sig below.
