I ran Hijackthis (as hijack~1.exe because it came in via DOS) and "fixed" the two lines that you attributed to the vundo virus. Next boot was miraculous: full boot!
So thank you!! I tried clicking on the vundofix icon on my desktop and the same thing happened: after the checkbox and OK, it never came back. I have begun a defrag and it looks a lot better so far. Thankyou and kudos on a job well done. I will leave the vundofix icon and check back here in case I can help you in return.

WOW! BIG HELP FROM HALF WAY AROUND THE WORLD!!! PS: I'll be donating, too- but need to investigate how- I have no Paypal acct.
