Default [Resolved] win me profile deleted and i lost files

I wanted to get rid of the login screen in ME.
first I changes the log onunder Network to window logon.
That did not get rid of the logon screen..so then I deleted the user, but first I copied the files in My Docs to another folder.
It still didnt get rid of the logon screen. It showed a blank screen with no user name on it. All i can do is cancel to get to the desktop.
So I canceled from the log on screen and copied the files to my docs

I then was still trying to get rid of the logon screen so I changed the logon under Network to client for MS network...that did nothing ...so i changed it again to win logon. Then the user "stephanie showed up again.

When i log in ..I deleted stephanie again and the log on screen went away.

My problem is that for some unknown reason the files in my doc are all from 2005....I lost all the 2006 files.... I looked and ran searches and there is no 2006 files anywhere. There is a directory "windows\profiles\stephanie\my docs\" in addition to my docs. A few temp files i restored copied there.
so my question is ...is there anyway to restore the files that I lost when I deleted the profile??? I lost an 80 page doc.
thanks
jan

I'm not sure if this will work, but try System Restore. It doesn't get rid of any new data, but it might bring back old stuff. Here is a link to the Microsoft Website explaining the tool and how to use it! Follow the Travel Through Time instructions.

I hope this helps - I know what it feels like to lose data! Best of luck!

System restore did nothing. And you set it back far enough?

Well, the next thing to try (I think) is one of these Apps. They were recommended to me by Joe5 when I lost most of my hard drive. I never got to test them, considering that my computer shop is doing the same thing for me, but you may experience good results. Here are the links:

Good luck, and I hope one of these will get your files back.

So my question is when windows deletes a profile and files of that user, can you restore them...they do not go into the recycle bin and system restore does not change files.
thanks
