Default [Pending] Win 98 reformat question...

Hey all
I've got an older HP comp with win 98 on it that was given to me from a friend that I want to give to another so that he can use it to JUST to get on line. Its only a 533 celeron with 64 meg of ram. I know its lame but if you can use it to get on line(dial up)and it works then GREAT!
My problem is that I need to erase everything that is on it and start all from new. I do have the recovery CD that came with the comp and I thought ...well no problem...wrong! I insert the CD and then shut it down. I restart and the CD takes over..good. I go through all of the prompts of it telling me and asking me what I want to do. I choose to go with the total reformat and recover deal and of course it does ask me ...are you sure? That Im going to lose everything and will start back as if it came right out of the box. I'm good with that!
Well I hit enter and thats all she wrote. Nothing! The keyboard locks up and all Im looking at is the screen I was reading before I hit enter. I went into Bios and set to default setting for the heck of it....no good. Anyone with an idea I can toss at this thing....If not,no great loss
Thx for reading

Hya Macman , welcome to PCHF.

Has any of the hardware changed or been added from the original setup?
I.E. if you have external USB devices conected or extra pci cards installed ect, try removing those and then try to perform the recovery again.
