Question [Pending] PCI Mass Storage Controller

I have a Soyo mb running a P4 1.5Ghz. My problem is in the control panel after the re-format. In the 'other' section, it appears the driver for this device is missing. I've been ALL over the Soyo site about it, mailed them, etc to no avail. Once programs get opened up, things seem to run fairly well, but it gets the herky jerkys waaaay too much. Some other threads I've read indicate the controller is the problem. Need either a driver or to know where to look in the WIN cd to find it. Apparently, i'm blind!
Thanks for any indications that can be found!

Are you sure your mainboard hasn't got a RAID/SCSI controller on board even if you not necessarily using it. You can tell this by going into the BIOS and checking to see whether RAID can be disabled. Often the controller will display some drive information just after a memory check and before the OS loads.

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, the mainboard is RAID enabled, but even with that off (according to the jumper settings) it still has the same problem. It shows as a PCI, but it IS an onboard problem, as there is no seperate card for it. I'll see what else I can find at re-boot.

Ok.. after the reboot... lots of info, but no disable. Only way I know to do that is in the jumpers on board and then it looks for Ultra Family. It's a 'lite' version. Also tried getting it to accept a manual configuration.. no go Got a couple more things I want to check, but all help IS appreciated!

What sort of MB is it, model number please? I think it will say PCI because there really is no difference between and PCI card and an onboard PCI device. There both connected to the PCI bus just a card is detachable. If you look out for SETUP Key on the very first screen as the PC switches on, usually Del or F2 then enter the BIOS. In advanced or onboard devices there should be an option to disable RAID. Alternatively you could just find out which RAID controller you have and install the drivers.

Red face

Thanks for checking into this for me. Each of the suggestions have been tried before and now tried again, but no change. Guess I'll keep looking. Radar, thanks for the page. It was a little different than the one I normally get, but it still ends up in the same d/l place I've already been. The M/b is apparently a dis-continued from SOYO so I'll need to check further into archives. Which is kinda the pits..... Maybe time for another m/b.
