Hi All!
I have an older computer that I will be donating to a women's shelter here in town, if I can get the OS loaded. I ran DBAN on this computer, which writes over all the info and turns it to 0's and 1's. Now I can't load Windows 98.
From the boot disk, I ran the FDISK program and then I started to install the program from a CD. It performs the first three steps of the install, 1.preparing my computer, 2. Collecting info about my computer, and 3. Copying files to my computer. The next step is to re-boot. After the re-boot, the last step is to finalize settings and set-up the hardware. This is where it stops, there is a window talking about setting up the PNP components. One of the boxes said if the computer locks up to re-boot. When I re-boot it goes through the whole set-up again and when it gets to the same screen and stops again. I re-boot again and after the POST all I get is a blue screen!! Can Someone please help me!!
Hi there, hmmm..looks like your post was missed somehow
You could try stripping the PC back to complete basics before attempting another install, no PCI cards (obviously not graphics), 1 stick of RAM, no USB devices attached etc.
I'm a novice user so please bear with me on the terminology!! Are you suggesting that I diconnect the PCI card from the motherboard?? I have nothing else connected, except keyboard, mouse and monitor!
Ok, since I haven't hear back from you, I went ahead and removed all the cards not being used. I finally got windows 98 to install. I put the cards back in and the puter locked up. Removed the cards again and rebooted, worked fine. I then installed the cards one at a time and determined the telephone modem card is causing my problems. Is it a matter of finding the correct driver for the modem????
