Smile [Resolved] finding windows98 cd @ usable harddrive

HI, my main problems are, where do I get a usable win98 cd, to install an operating system in an older gateway which had the os deleted, and finding a usable harddrive with at least 6 gb, to replace the harddrive I took out of my compaq presario which crashed, or wouldn't work for some reason. Any ideas? I don't want to spend much since these are older computers, which I may give to my son or someone else. thanks, Rog.

Lightbulb Ebay??

Hi Rog

The cheapest (and legal  ) option is probably to get one from somewhere like Ebay. I had a quick look and there's one almost at the end of its auction going for around $10.

Could you not install XP on it? Whats the spec?

Thanks Gromit, I will try e-bay, I was thinking about this, but since it is national, someone would have to mail the parts needed. Also, I don't knowenough about computers to know if xp would work. I have xp in my new computer. The specs if this is what you mean are 64mb ram, 8 gig harddrive, around 350 mhz. The gateway has a cd drive and dvd drive, so the owner was using lots of things, including a burner. also had a 3 1/2 in. floppy drive. Thanks, rog.

Hi Rog.

With those specs i would stay with win98 , XP needs atleast more ram to run , and with that proc XP is gone run slow even with more ram.

And have a look here for win98 installation instructions if needed:
