Default [Pending] Slow Opening Excel and Word Files

Has anyone encountered a problem opening MS excel and word documents. It takes me upwards of 2 minutes to open files that used to take 2 seconds. I have scoured the web for help and nothing I found helped. I'm running Win ME and Office XP.

Thanks!

Hi Fastback,

Welcome to PCHF!!!

Could you post the specs of your PC.

There could also be a compatibility issue running a program optimized for XP on a PC running ME.

We have a great tech team who will love to help you out. SO hang in there.

I'm running a Dell Inspiron Notebook 4000, running Win ME 4.90.3000, ~700MHz Pentium III, w/ 128 MB RAM.

I connect to the web through the modem, but i have an unused ethernet card in.

I am running AVG anti-virus, Spybot and Adaware.

Does that cover it?

Thanks!

welcome to PCHF fastback.

The best recomendation is to delete Office from your PC via Control panel > add/remove programs. Also, delete the folder in Windows explorer. Then re-install it. Something has gotten messed up somewhere along the line and this should sort it out.

Thanks hengis, but no luck. I deleted Office XP via add/remove programs and then manually deleted the folders in c:\program files and c:\windows\profiles...

I still have problems.

Occasionally I get and error message when I try to open an excel file directly (doubleclicking the file icon). It states that the file cannot be found...

Have you reinstalled it? (As that's not mentioned in your post)
