Default [Answered] Disk Boot failure

I have my daughters comp to see if we can get it up and running. It use to start up prior, real slow like and when u went to use anything on it,it would freeze the comp.
Now, all it does is ask for a disc boot, which we do not have, there where no discs with the comp.
I cant get into it to run any scans, hjts, ccleaner etc.
Now all i can tell u that it has Millinnium Edition windows and thats about it untill I can get the comp going to find the specs and the daughter did say something about the comp being a Celeron?
At present we have taken the covers off and it does need a major de-dust,so hopefully that will help with any heat prob it may have encountered,it is dusty lol.
Other than that i am sorry I cant give any further info unless there is something specific u could ask.
Thanks guys.........Andy

Default As far as it goes

Okay the comp boots up and takes me to my desktop, which is in recovery mode,I get out of that and into my normal desktop,oh also on start up it wants me to do a disc scan i have said no to it,only because it freezes when it is scanning clusters,it stops at 22021 clusters of 1250504,this happens all the time.
Ok back to my desktop,I can move my pointer around the desktop, yet, along with it, is the hrs glass icon, showing me it is busy or another programme is running?
As soon as I go to try and open something (any folder or programme) the comp freezes and the only way to shut it down is to hit the power button,so of course as soon as I try and reboot I go through the same thing again?
Thats the story so far and I cant tell u no more as the comp goes no further.
So now I am ready for your guidance....Thankyou..

freezing during diskchecks , slow booting , freezing , missing boot disk error.. Im afraid that that sounds like a dead HD.

Can you test the HD in an other pc?

Default Sorry Joe

Hi Joe,
in reply to your question about changing hard drives to another comp,no I have not another pc,other than mine and i would be to scared to even attempt it with my comp.
I have tried rebooting a few times since, and the comp either goes to my desktop then freezes or it will go to disc boot failure,it does not seem to just start up consistantly in the same way.
PS hang on i have been informed that another comp can be available to try so i will try that.

Thats good news , that means that the rest of the pc is ok. But it doesn't necessarily mean that the HD is the prob , it still could be a software prob.

I doubt it , but it could be.
you could give the HD a test in an other pc and/or try to save some data from it in the process.
