Default [Resolved] unable to connect to internet

Hi. Did an unsuccessful search here. Hopefully you guys can help. Old compaq presario laptop, with win98SE. Installed netgear wg511t wireless card, and connected to wg634u router/dsl connection. Setup worked well, until I used the laptop at another place. Connected well there but, when I got home mozilla states google not found. IE not connecting either, although the netgear card can find the network, and the program shows a good connection with great signal strength. Reset internet connections to defaults, turned off ZA firewall ( no windows FW as far as I can tell ), and still no dice. How can I get firefox or IE to recognize my wireless network? Thanks.

Ok, when you connected at the other site, what did you change to enable the connection, can you remember?

First question.... nope.. I'm a doctor, however. Pleasure to meet you.

Second question..... I did nothing to the connection. It was a linksys setup, and conneted at 80% strength automatically. I did however, download and install adobe reader 6.0.1 ( fron the adobe site ) while I was there, but it seemed to install properly.

One thought, I installed a netgear wireless USB to an emachines-celeron2.0-winxp (same router) and I noted that the connection would always stay on, but firefox and IE would lose the ability, to connect. Ultimately I figgered out that it would drop the connection, every time it would hibernate, and the only way I knew to resume the browser connections was to restart the computer. Once I disabled hibernate, its never dropped the browser connection. Seems to be the same problem here. I went into power management and disabled hibernate, but still no internet connection. Hmmm....
thanks for the fast response, by the way...

Have you also tried to "repair" the connection?

Go to youre "Network and Internet Connections/network connections" and rightclick on youre adapter and select "repair". If it gives an error , then please post that here.

Well once again, I'mconfused, but it started working today. Wireless network recognized and firefox and IE working, albeit very slowly. Any ideas as to how to clean the rgisty etc for this old computer. I tried the earliest CCleaner and it seemed to help but, it runs like it needs a thorough cleaning.
