Default [Resolved] Modem not installed ,shown to be operating

I am resurecting an old Sony Viao wint Win 98 for a backup. I installed a new Zoom fax modem because I received the same error message with the old Hayes. The message states
"The modem is not installed. To install a modem double click on Modem in the Control Panel."
Well when you go to the control panel the Modem is installed and when you open the properties it states the Modem is working properly. I selected Comm 2 but under the System Device tab it is shown as Comm1 and there is no yellow !

I nstalled a 10/100 Network card and that went smoothly.
Any help.

Where did you select the com port?

Do you have another device using com port 1?

Default Comm port selection

I first selected Comm port 1 in the modem setup screen and when it did not work I selected Comm port 2. After selecting Comm port 2 the Device Manager under the System tab still shows the mondem on Comm port 1. I even Removed the Comm port 1 entry on the Device Manager and it replaced it when I re-installed the Modem on Comm port 2.
Go figure!
Thanks
Dan

Default Fixed modem

I nstalled a Zoom 2925L modem and got the same error messages. I finally went to a driver web site and loaded the Zoom driver. After having to copy over an Unzip utility I was able to get the modem working correctly. Now I have one last problem with the monitor but I will post that as a new item.:hello2:
