Default [Resolved] Low memory issue

I have a friend who owns one of the first E-Machines there was. (Yuck!)
I recently upgraded their memory with an additional 128MB of RAM, which after research was the max that I could put into it. The OS is Windows 98. She called me and said that there is an error that keeps coming up saying she is low on memory. I know the memory was accepted. I checked it after installation. What do you think the error is about?

Hey Jivers,

How many friend's PCs are you working on man? LOL

Ask your friend to try the following;

1.Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2.Double-click System.
3.On the Performance tab, click Virtual Memory.
4.Click to select the Let Windows manage my virtual memory settings. (Recommended) check box, and then click OK.
5.If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

If she continues to have the problem, it may be that she is using too much system resources at one time. Ask her to check to see what she has running when she gets this error message.

I am sure that the guys can come up with a hundred more items for you to check.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

I know... they all call me.

Now her system wont boot completely. I am on the phone right now with her. The Emachines logo shows up while booting, then the Windows 98 screen shows up and then it goes black. Then she has nothing.

Sounds like I was right about the memory issue. Sorry to burden you with that. I am sure I could've figured it out. Ever since I graduated with my Associates degree in Computer Information Sytems, everybody seems to think I am wonder woman!!! I worry about looking in the wrong direction for the problem. I am sure that will pass with more experience.

I am going over there tomorrow to find out more details. She is just in panic mode. I think I will see if I can boot in Safe Mode and start there. A little troubleshooting can go a long ways.

:hello2: Exactly what I was going to suggest next. Good Job Jivers O0 .

Make sure that you take along an emergency kit cd. Include, CCleaner, HijackThis!, ewido, Adaware SE, Spybot S&D, and at least one AV. You may also want to include Spy Sweeper and Counter Spy.

Do you have a laptop that you can bring along with you that you would be able to log in with? It could be really helpful if you are in need of additional utilities or advice.

You are going to make a really super tech. I applaud your willingness to help your friends.

Looking forward to your next post.
