Hi faithbuilder - yup still the same support crowd (with a few excellent additions).

Sounds like you may have bad sectors on your hard drive. Grab a 98 bootdisk from here: www.bootdisk.com and when at the a: prompt, type c: then return then chkdsk. This will scan your hard drive for errors (and hopefully fix them). If the process completes successfully you can try to continue with your Win98 install.

Red face

If you are willing to start from scratch.. :computer_
...I'd recommend that you re-partition the drive using FDISK and then try re-formatting the drive again. The formatting will need to complete so if it doesn't (or you need help with FDISK) repost here for more help from the great pchf tech team!

Hi Faithbuilder,

I would do the following, get into your BIOS on bootup. (Usually that entails tapping either F10, F11, or Esc repeatedly) Using your arrow keys, navigate to Storage, and down to IDE Self test. Hit enter. Once it has finished, it should be able to give you some information about your harddrive, if nothing or little shows up,

I would run the FDisk utility from your bootdisk, and then reformat your PC.

If you have any difficulties plese don't hesitate to holler.

ok how do i fdisk step by step i tryed fdisk and it came back with same **** as before i tryed the chkdsk and scan disk it came back after running 11 percent and says scan disk encountered a data error in the fat on drive c this error prevents scandisk from fixing the drive.
