Hey sorry it took so long to get back here ,but i loaded the link you gave merlin for the boot disk to a cdrw put it in the cdrom of the sick computer turned the computer off and back on it didnt load the tools as you said it would ,i figured maby the boot sector was wrong in bios for booting from cd so i checked it and put in my 98 windows cd in the cdrom tray turned pc off and back on and it booted from the 98 disk and asked if i wanted to intall windows 98 i said yes then it came back and said theres already a version of windows on this computer go back to the begining and make another choice then it proceeded to do a scan disk got to 11 percent and said cant continue not enough memory so i thought well let's put the boot cd back in and reboot but still nothing happens what im i doing wrong ????:computer_

Get to the Dos prompt again and at the point where you are going to type setup....type the following:

setup /id /im /is (there are spaces before each "/")

You choose to start WITH cd rom > then when it has finished loading and it goes to a:> type in e: and press return - then type in the first thing I gave you WITH the setup cd in the drive.
