Default [Fixed] windows ME: error when trying to shut down

I had a power surge that killed the power and ever since that when I try to shut down or restart from the start menu I get a windows error that tells me I need to hit enter to return to windows or alt ctrl del to restart. I then have to use the button to shut down. I checked with stinger, norton 2005, and ad aware. nothing shows up. I also used the start up disk to scan and it fixed a couple things but the problem is still there.

I also have another problem getting error code 1805 when I try to put a user backup on the restore disk. it gets to 53% then get the error. something about can not write to image file.

any suggestions? Besides upgrading to XP...LOL

:-D Hi Dreams,

As an ex ME user, I can totally relate, but you'll make the change sometime

In the meantime, can you boot into and out of Safe Mode normally?

Can you please post the exact error message you are getting?

Thanks,

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

As for the above, this usually means the disc is dirty or scratched. Does it ever say cylindrical error?

Next can you Right click my computer/click properties/now click on Advanced/ Then click on the tab "settings" under startup and recovery now click edit and let us know what it says in the text that pops up.

I haven't had any problems getting in or out of safe mode. I'll post the error message as soon as I shut down again.

As for right cicking on "My computer" then "properties" that gives me system properties.

Hey Dreams,

the_mechanic meant once you get to system properties, click on the Advanced tab. Then click on the Settings button next to Startup and Recovery. When you click the Edit button, you will get a Notepad box with your boot.ini settings. Copy them and post back here along with your error message.

Look forward to your reply,
