the simplest idea i think would be to remove the battery from your laptop's motherboard then you should set up your machine to boot cd rom first and then you can re-install windows 98. If you don't have Windows 98 on cd then i recommend you aquire it since that is the best "get out of jail free" card whenever you really mess up your computer. I also recommend never becomming TOO attached to anything on your hard drive and if you can't afford to lose something make sure it's backed up properly. That way when you reformat your drive you can just reload it. BTW I'm new here, is there an html or html-like tag system when you post?

double_a_ron, yes, there is BBCode. There are various tutorials across the internet for BBCode, so I will not cover it here because it is outside of the realms of this conversation. Also, a BIOS password has nothing to do with the OS, the machine can't even boot up to a CD-ROM because it will prompt you for a password first. It is not necessary to format the drive, because the password will still remain as it is stored on in the motherboard's settings, which is stored outside of the hard drive.

Be careful where to put the jumper. It does connect 2 pins on your mainboard.
There are three in a row somewhere on your mainboard.
. . .
Normally the jumper is set like:
[ . . ] .
When you put it
. [ . . ]
this way, you'll reset your BIOS.
Watch out, you should NOT start your pc with jumper in second position. Just leave it on there for about 30 seconds. Then put it back and start the computer. During this you have to make sure not to connect the computer to a power source.

Instructions here read from: "Here are the procedures if the jumpers are present on the motherboard:"
Good luck!
