Default [Fixed] Getting Rid of the Inbox on my Desktop

Hi All :-D

While installing an old copy of Corel Word, it also installed an Inbox on my desktop. I think this is Microsoft Messenger.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it. It doesn't show up in msconfig's startup listing and I can't find the "exe" file which launches it. Clicking on "properties" only launches it.

OS = Windows 98 SE

Thanks in anticipation ....

Simply right click on the icon and press "Delete". Don't worry, this won't remove the program, only the icon for it.

There is no "delete" in the RH Button menu and it cannot be deleted by dragging to the Recycle Bin.
Also, I don't just want to get of the icon, I want to delete the program.

I am not familiar with Corel but apparently there is an option in preferences (within Corel) to remove that icon/program.

No ... nothing there I'm afraid. This is what I know so far ...

1. There is no "delete" available when right-clicking on the icon
2. It can't be dragged to the Recycle Bin (just pops back to where it was)
3. There is nothing in the ADD/REMOVE listings
4. A search of my HD only shows my Outlook Express "Inbox"

I think it is a Network messaging program ...
I can't access the "properties" of this icon - it launches a settings window when I try.

(sigh)

Back up your Registry files, System.dat and User.dat from the root of your hard drive, before proceeding.

1. Open the Registry Editor - click Start, Run, type regedit and click OK.

Navigate your way to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace.

2. Select a key under NameSpace and watch the name that appears in the right pane under Data. Once you find the one you want to remove, right-click its key (again, under NameSpace in the left pane), select Delete, then click Yes to confirm.

3. Close the Registry Editor, click the desktop to place the focus there, then press F5 (for refresh).

The icon should now be gone
