Almost!! It was an old version I found on a CD that came a PC. It was in a folder named "Corel" and I thought it might be a CorelDraw program.

I started it's "Setup.exe" but it said that it needed to install a Microsoft program (I can't remember if it specified "Ms Messenger") I just clicked OK and it installed - from some cab file on my hard disk. However I aborted the installation when I realized that it was a WordPerfect program and not a CorelDraw program as I thought.

It was Corel WordPerfect Suite 8

Is that significant?

:-D Believe it or not, yes.

I thought it was twelve, but one of the versions of Corel WordPerfect Office began coming with it's own email add in. You need to uninstall your Office suite, and reinstall it using a custom install, that should let you choose the parts that you do and do not want. Give that a try and see if there is any mention of an email or mail aspect to the suitel.

Just a quick summary of what I have discovered since my last post;

Right clicking on the icon launches the program - it does not display any properties

The same thing happens if you click on any of these:

My Computer
Internet Explorer
Network Neighborhood

I found that the icon can be removed from the desktop by deleting this from the registry;

{00020D75-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\
Desktop\NameSpace]

However it doesn't remove the program itself (it still appears in my "Start" menu.) As Windows Messenger which is a security risk allowing hackers to use this LAN messenger program for spam ... that's why I am keen to remove it completely ... not just the icon on the desktop.

It is not an Email program. (see picture attached)

I never installed WordPerfect ... I aborted the installation at the point where I was asked to choose the directory to install WordPerfect in.

It doesnt allow for un-installing the Windows Messaging program.

Did you try this yet?

Under Control Panel, select Add/Remove.
Select Windows Setup.
Select System Tools.
Click Details.
Uncheck WinPopUp.
Click OK.

I just tried that ... but it is still there . :cry:

It is still in my START/PROGRAMS menu and when I click on it, it launches.

Hmm, I'd forgotten that you'd mentioned that before. What exactly launches? You haven't mentioned the name of the program. Also, can you download Spybot S&D from my signature and install and update it? We're going to get you into the Advanced tools that it has.

Look forward to your response.
