Re: I've had this computer for 4.5 years and....
Well, it's fixed now.
Whenever it would boot, it would only do 3 things.
1. Show the desktop picture.
2. Show the mouse cursor.
3. Whenever I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Dlt, it would bring up the Task Manager, but it showed that NOTHING was running at all. And the Task Manager in ME doesn't give you an option to start a new task, that was introduced in XP.
I had to get to the setup screen, which you get to by hitting Delete over and over while the machine boots until you get it. Once I was there, I made the CD ROM as the primary boot device where I had the WinME CD waiting. Once I got that thing running, it found mucho errors on the C: drive, which were all repaired. That alone took about 3 hours. When it finished, it finally started reinstalling Windows, which took about an hour. Once I got the machine booted normally, I found that my email program, Front Page, Word, Winamp, my CD Burning program, and IE (which I don't use, I use Firefox) all failed to start.
I was able to reload all but one program, and that's my CD Burning program. Main reason is because I don't know where I put the original CD, and all the ones I try downloading are ISO files, which are useless to me unless I can burn it to disc. Gotta love the irony. So that's my main problem, along with the fact that every time I simply insert a CD in the CD ROM, as soon as it reads that there's a disc...bam. Blue Screen. I can still use my DVD ROM to get info out of discs, but nothing to burn with. I've been having to save info on CF cards and transfer them from this to my laptop to burn CDs.
