Okay, so here's the deal. I'm posting this thread using my laptop because my desktop is acting up...to say the least.

I was using the computer when suddenly it froze. No biggie, I thought, considering I'm using WinME. Happens all the time. Well, when I rebooted, it came up just as normal. Checked the C: Drive for errors, but when it booted up and played the boot-up music, all that came up was my desktop pic and my mouse cursor. Explorer NEVER comes up! I can't get to ANYTHING!

I went into the Setup Screen during bootup and was able to get the primary boot device be the CD Rom drive where I have my WinME Reinstallation disc. It's going through the motions, but it's going to take forever to see whether or not this works.

Anyone have any input????

Welcome to PCHF.

Can you boot into Safe mode? If you can then why not try a system restore.

Tried that. Same result. I even tried a step-by-step boot.

Well, it's fixed now.

Whenever it would boot, it would only do 3 things.
1. Show the desktop picture.
2. Show the mouse cursor.
3. Whenever I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Dlt, it would bring up the Task Manager, but it showed that NOTHING was running at all. And the Task Manager in ME doesn't give you an option to start a new task, that was introduced in XP.

I had to get to the setup screen, which you get to by hitting Delete over and over while the machine boots until you get it. Once I was there, I made the CD ROM as the primary boot device where I had the WinME CD waiting. Once I got that thing running, it found mucho errors on the C: drive, which were all repaired. That alone took about 3 hours. When it finished, it finally started reinstalling Windows, which took about an hour. Once I got the machine booted normally, I found that my email program, Front Page, Word, Winamp, my CD Burning program, and IE (which I don't use, I use Firefox) all failed to start.

I was able to reload all but one program, and that's my CD Burning program. Main reason is because I don't know where I put the original CD, and all the ones I try downloading are ISO files, which are useless to me unless I can burn it to disc. Gotta love the irony. So that's my main problem, along with the fact that every time I simply insert a CD in the CD ROM, as soon as it reads that there's a disc...bam. Blue Screen. I can still use my DVD ROM to get info out of discs, but nothing to burn with. I've been having to save info on CF cards and transfer them from this to my laptop to burn CDs.

:-) Hey Spiral Photo,

Did you do a complete format on your reinstall or did you just reinstall over your original OS? I think you should consider that you may have some type of malware on your PC, just to make sure, could you please attach a HijackThis! Log to a post.

If you don't have it, you can download it from my signature. Make sure that you have all files and folders showing (In Windows Explorer, click on Tools, Folder Options, View, and make sure that Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected) and install HijackThis to its own folder. When you run it choose the top option and save the log to your desktop, then Attach it, (see the bottom of your post).

One of us can take a look and see if there is something going on.

In regard to your CD burning software, if you didn't reformat, it may still be available to you, it should not have uninstalled itself, you may just need to reinstall the driver for the CD player.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN
