Default [Answered] suggestions on upgrading from ME to XP...

Well I am sick of ME and wanted to know what suggestions you might have for upgrading to XP. I have been told that is best to completely remove ME then to do a clean install. I have no idea what to do to make sure everything is done right. I'm still learning how to do things so some of the instuctions confuse me.

I'm not sure if my pc needs anything besides more RAM. so if anyone could help me figure out what I need and how to figure out what I have and what I need to do I would really like a little help.

Thanks in advance, Dreams

Hello,
Yes the best way is to do a fresh install of windows XP... If you have a cd burner I would burn your important files to cd's or dvd's.. how much ram do you have do you know.. To work you need at least 128 megs of ram, even though it will work with 64 megs but very slowly! Here is a tutorial I wrote on installing Xp

http://www.pchelpforum.com/component.../topic,1852.0/

and you can download this program to let us know how much ram you have

Belarc

hope this helps,? anymore questions feel free to ask thats why were all here

BTW good choice on going to XP from ME

I have 192 megs RAM but am going to bump that way up...

is the RAM the main thing that slows it down? I'm not sure if it is just the fact that ME is so messed up or if its actually my pc that is slow....

what do you actually have to do to remove ME? mine is manufacturer installed so all I have is a restore disk. I don't really trust the instructions Microsoft gives because they usually forget a lot of important info..

well after awhile your pc starts to slow down from just using it and gets bloated with files and garbage and what not.. But more rma always speeds up the pc. But since you have a manufacrued pc, you might have some problems because there are drivers on your repar disc that Xp will not have. Although XP does have alot of new drivers you will have to go your pc website dell, hp etc.. to download the drivers.. Or you can tell me what your model number is and what pc you are using and I can tell you what you will need! As for Micro$oft. I do it my own way.. Just follow the tutorial and you will be jumpin along :-D
