Can anyone help!? I have just formatted a toshiba laptop which was running win 95 - hoping to install win 98 se
Unfortunatley it doesnt appear to be reading drive a or any other as a matter of fact!? I re-booted with the win 98 boot up disk in and cd and typed in the usual commands to install? but nothing happened ?

typed in all number of commands but to no avail.

Would be obliged if any one can help

Did you FDisk (delete the Win95 partition) & then Format?
When you say "nothing happened" - what exactly did happen?

No I didnt delete the Win95 partition ?
I just thought formatting would be the same as on a pc?

After the usual formatting we switched the laptop off and inserted the win 98 boot disk and at the dos prompt typed in A: /setup - I thingk - the thing is I've tried all combinations and it appears to switch to the A drive but doesnt read it?

If you are installing Windows 98 Second edition then you can boot off the windows CD.

When you start your machine go into the BIOS and set the CDROM to be the first boot device.
Then save the changes and exit. When the PC reboots it should prompt you to the following:

• Start Windows 98 Setup from CD-ROM
• Start computer with CD-ROM support
• Start computer without CD-ROM support

Choose the first one, it should boot into the Windows 98 setup screen.

Cant access bios settings now ?

Pressed the escape key and other keys - before formatting escape key worked to access it?

When you first turn on your laptop try press CTRL ESC , F2 or F10.. those are the regular keys to press.
Otherwise post your laptop make and model and we can find the exact key press needed.
