Thx. Do you have a recommendation for a Windows ME boot disk too (have a friends PC to tend to). The one off of 'bootdisk.com' didn't work either....received the same message: invalide system disk....

One more thing...you mention above format the disk and "run the exe file that is downloaded from above"....what does that mean??? when I created my disks I downloaded the exe files to seperate disks respectively....do I then have to run the exe file after it is copied onto the disk.....I don't think I'm clear on how to "create" the boot disk....may be the problem here.....my knuckleheadedness......thanks.

OK...bootup disk works! Only, as I understand, I will lose all of my personal saved files if I run the bootup disk AND my W98 disk and my goal is to save my files....someone suggested buying another hard drive and installing it and installing windows and then install the existing (defunct) one as a "slave" so I could access the files.....does that sound like it can happen?? When I am in DOS mode and pull a C:\ prompt and use the DIR command, I see all of the files and file groups (?...like [My Documents] is listed along w/the .sys and .exe files that show.....)
"feets don't fail me now!", what're your thoughts?? I've got some time to work this out as I'm "away" for the holidays away from the desktop.....

THX!

If you go for the new hard drive approach you will be able to install a fresh copy of Win98 on the new drive and then pull over the files whilst in Windows from the old "slave" drive. Just make sure that your old drive isn't connected whilst installing Windows on the new drive. If you have the cash then this is certainly your best option....and the easiest!

Good luck with that and happy holidays!
