Default [Pending] installing windows 98 to a freshly formatted C:

I'm having a problem when trying to install windows 98.
When I install the boot floppy disk it searches for a driver to make my CD Rom work.
It can't find the driver and therefore I can't use the windows 98 cd disk.

it gives me the error message: "no valid cd rom device drivers selected MSCD0001 not found"

On another computer that I recently installed windows 98 onto, it found the drivers ok. Also I took the CD drive off this other computer and connected it to the new computer and had the same error messages.

I know the CD Rom can boot from the start as a windows XP recovery CD disk i've got seems to be recognised at the start and it runs itself....but obviously not the windows 98 cd.

Therefore could this be something in the bios?

Can someone please help?

Do I need a new driver for the cd rom that I have ?
Do I need a new floppy boot disk with new drivers?
or do I need to add a driver to this disk?

Or is there A CD boot disk available and where can I get it?

Can I suggest that you click here: http://ephemeral-designs.com/downloads/boot98se.exe (if you have Windows 98SE) and use this bootdisk (from bootdisk.com). Freshly "complete" format a floppy and see what happens - let us know.

Have to agree with JDawg. Get over to bootdisk.com and download a 98 disk with all the generic drivers etc on it. Make sure that you either use a new floppy or a very well formatted one . Check the cables on the back of your CD Rom drive and also where they connect to the motherboard (usually IDE2 socket).

Okey dokey - if your CD drive is working fine then why not try this: http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/cdrom/ it's a CD boot disk..i.e it will give you a "driver installed" environment in which to start the Win98 cd into.

Or this: http://ubcd.sourceforge.net/

Sorry, I am forgetting my manners!! Welcome to PCHF damohonda!

the first site you gave me actually creates a floppy not a cd. a cd is possible but not with windows 98.

the 2nd site you have to keep clicking on other sites which lead you to other sites which blah blah blah.

do you know of any other sites where monkeys like me can point and click, download, burn to CD.. hey presto?
