Default FAT problem

It would help to fix it if you could give the exact message that you are seeing.

A quick question:
Was your computer working (Booting into Windows) before you took the D-Link out ?

Default FAT problem

yes my computer was working b4 i fiddled with it and I will also add that i didnt have the internet used on it b4 or after i did fiddle with it here is the message that it gives me
after putting in the boot disk and following the on-screen directions with the support of the cd-rom drive it says

Windows 98 has detected that drive C does not contain a valid FAT or FAT32 partition. There are several possible causes

1.the drive may need to be partitioned. To create a partition on the drive run FDISK from the MS-DOS command prompt .(i dont know what this means or the steps to do so)

2.You may be using thrid-party disk-partitioning software. If you are using this type of software, remove the Emergency Boot Disk and restart your computer. Then follow the on-screen instructions to start your computer from a floppy disk(I think I did this and ended here)

3.Some viruses also cause your drive C to not register. You can use a virusscanning program to check you computer for viruses(I didnt have the internet working to get a virus I doubt this is the cause)

Would you be able to send me the Part/Model number of the D-link card that you removed from your machine.

Is your hard drive being detected in your BIOS ? (to me it sounds like it might not be detecting your drive properly)

If you hard drive is being detected then you can follow these instructions on how to Partition your hard drive using FDISK.

When you boot off your Windows 98 CD, choose the second option "Start Computer with CD-ROM Support"
Go to the WIN98 folder on your CD and type FDISK.
It will ask you whether to enable Fat32, press Y

I would explain the process of doing it but I think that these sites can do it better.
I recommend deleting the partition first (if there is one setup) and then create a new one).
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255867#1
Go down on the page until you see "How to Partition a Master Hard Disk" and follow the instructions
This site might be a bit better because it shows pictures of the process.

Once the Drive has been partitioned, restart the machine, boot off the Windows 98 CD again and choose option 1. "Start Windows 98 SETUP from CDROM"
When it boots up it should hopefully start formatting your Hard Drive.
