You would most likely need to learn a server side scripting language such as PHP or ASP to build more interactive websites.

Lets also talk about the definition of web designer, a web designer generally produces graphics and templates and does not know so much about coding, from that course I would presume you are looking to be more of a web developer as they have more coding experience but it obviously does not prohibit you from doing web design too

"Pro" at web designing is a very broad term, how would you define it?

Its all about getting clients and building up a reputation, maybe make some sites cheaply or some templates and try and sell them to begin with and then take on clients with specific requests. There is lots of web designers out there so you will need something unique to put you above the other designers/developers.

It would be useful if you plan to take on the role of a designer as well as developer. Get a good graphics package like Photoshop and you can find lots of tutorials on the net.

I can't think of any other qualifications but I would suggest reading various tutorial sites like the ones below to widen your knowledge. You could also learn server side scripting languages from sites like these.

Sites:
W3Schools Online Web Tutorials
Tizag Tutorials
HTML and CSS Tutorials, References, and Articles | HTML Dog
Photoshop Tutorials, Flash Tutorials and More! P2L Tutorial Search

Out of interest what course is that?

Hey pretty,

A pro? Not after 3 months Pretty, but it will give you a very good start. You'll find that (as with everything in IT), you will always be learning.

Graphic design is important if you want your web site to look cool and/or professional IMO, so you need to be quite creative. If you want to create complex web sites later on, a language such as PHP or Perl (similar to Java) would be a big advantage.

As for a career in web development, this will get you off to a good start, but employers often look for examples of your work. Web Designers are normally higher paid than System Administrators, but you would normally expect between £22,000 and £36,000 p.a. depending on your experience and where you live in the UK.

Also to expand on that. Lots of web designers do it as a hobby but earn money from it, and have it as almost a second job.

Another point, I learnt HTML a long time ago but never used it until recently and therefore forgot a lot of the markup. But now I have actually used it I can remember the coding a lot easier. I also try to code by hand rather than use programs to do parts for me like dreamweaver.

Best way to learn is to open the program, and start typing
Trial and error, best method I've found so far.. Some of the results you get from errors are quite astonishing sometimes too lol
