Hi there Alec I think it maybe because of the folder structure see below how you have jpg./logo.jpg change it to jpg/logo.jpg you will neeed to do this in dreamweaver delete the site off the server and reupload it.

The first thing that comes to mind Alecsputnik is GeoCities itself. Their servers add coding on top of what you have done. It often creates problems. Without seeing your source coding and directory tree it will be difficult to diagnose the problem.

Re: why won't my website work?
Feel free to remove this if you feel it is breaking any rules but www.simplywebhost.com offer a great free hosting packages. 500 mb of web space, 5 gigs of bandwith, free subdomains and no adverts at all. I use them alot, fantastic support as well. If, what Lord chance has already mentioned, it being a geocities issue then you should really check these guys out

this seems like it might be the issue, my friend insisted on using geocities (i have no idea why) maybe convincing her to change the location of the files is the next step!

As a work around try using the full path to your images instead of coding them relative to the root directory.
Instead of using this....
** background="../jpg/background.jpg" **
use this...
** background="http://us.geocities.com/dti_lmf_1976/jpg/background.jpg" **
I know it adds extra weight to your site coding but it might get you going untill we figure out what the true problem is.

Re: why won't my website work?
geocities IS adding code! this sucks!
it keeps adding my username in front of the pictures, so they won't show up!
i tried to use the simply web hosting site that was suggested, but i'm not really familiar with how to upload stuff via FTP. i'm using dreamweaver. it keeps telling me that my login attempts are failing, but i know i'm putting in the right name and password. there should be walkthroughs for everything on the internet! arg!

Once you get the hang of it you will never want to use anything else Alecsputnik. FTP lets you have more control over your file transfers to your account. Try finding a FTP client you like. They can be as complex as WSFTP or as simple as TinyFTP. Oh...by the way. With these servers, account setuo can take a few minutes or a few hours. Most ask you to be patient for at least 24 hours before you get worried. Keep trying
