Hi,

It really depends on the type of site you need to build or what you actually want to achieve.

Hello LowTech, There are several good freeware programs. Give the links below a look. Kompozer and NVU are similar in layout. Trillian Webpage looks promising and Amaya bares a looks as well.

KompoZer - Easy web authoring

Nvu - The Complete Web Authoring System for Linux, Macintosh and Windows

Trellian WebPage - Software

Amaya Overview

Hi, I highly recommend learning HTML. It is not a hard language and if you are building sites, it will be very, very useful to you. It is the basis of any type of web authoring. Once you learn that, you can expand so many ways, as well. You can learn PHP, Perl, CSS, etc.

Regards,
Adam

I couldn't agree more Axephilic. I never could get the page builders get to do what I wanted. It was easier to code it myself. But you must admit that seeing how the page builders structured the code helps you get your bearings...

Content Management Systems such as Joomla and PHPNuke are great ways to start a site for beginners.

Yeh CMS very good, but I don't like PhpNuke, feels tacky and not very well laid out. Joomla is good
