Default VPS, what do you think?

I am looking into buying the Rapid One VPS plan here.

What do you guys think? It is within my budget, and good for me to play with the Linux/Apache environment. Any problems you can foresee (besides me being stupid and locking myself out of the OS or something )?

Hello Spaceman3750,

The price point is not bad just remember to read the TOS carefully. 1gig month bandwidth is not much but serviceable if you do not plan shifting huge files thru the server. The worse you could do is run up a big bill going over limits. Have fun!

Ooops! This old one didn't have his specs on...lol

Just remember Spaceman that most providers count incoming and out going traffic in the count. And I'm not talking hits but bit for bit file transfers. It appears you have studied this carefully. So as a reminder, Read and understand the TOS (terms of service). Ask about server security and server backups. Who is responsable for those chores. And have fun with it...

Looks cool but do you have any need for the hosting or just wanna play with linux/apache?

If it's just playing, I MIGHT be able to give you a shell account (if you promise to play nice )

Both hosting and playing .

EDIT: Lord Chance - I have read the TOS, nothing unusual. Backups are my responsibility, although there is a full server backup made once per month. Security is kinda sorta up to both - we are responsible for securing our software, and they are responsible for network security.

You will do well Spaceman, I'm sure.

Please forgive me. I'm sort of a mixed breed. I'm one part PC tech and two parts teacher. I like to find a lesson in most problems and answers. Just concider me the nutty old professor...

Toodles!
