Question site owner wants to make simple changes

I built a web site using Dreamweaver and FTP'ing the pages to the web server I buy space on. Now the site owner wants to be able to make simple changes to existing pages without learning Dreamweaver or how to FTP files. I'm sure this is a common problem, but I do not know what the simplest solution is. Any suggestions?

thanks.........................matt

Hey Blues,

It is a common problem but is far from a simple solution. If it is just one user then training the user to upload files and learn how to edit documents really isn't that difficult. For multiple users, you will need to develop the facility on your web site to make your content editable, and for that you would first need a CGI-BIN on your server, and the ability to write in CGI programming language?

Question simple does not always mean easy

I agree that it is a common problem and that the solution does not appear to be simple.

Even though I have just the one user, training is out of the question (read: the user is stubborn). I was thinking about using a standard MS Office app (like Publisher) that the user is already somewhat familiar with and saving the Publisher document as an html file. To move the file to the web server, can I use Windows Explorer and use a copy&paste?

thanks................Matt

Hia Matt, I've seen what MS Office does to webpage code...it's aweful. As the user is stubborn...I'd say Word, as it can save as .html whenever you need to and is fairly easy to use for anything/anyone.

On the other hand - Dreamweaver is extremely simple to use - it's definately not like writing the whole webpage in html in Notepad

Default web page code

Yes, the html code an MS Office app produces is not pretty but creating it is as easy as doing a 'save as...'.

What do you think is the easiest way to ftp a file?

CuteFTP is nice an easy to use, but if it's always the same document, have a look at: Automated FTP client. ScriptFTP
