Default [Fixed] Website Icons in the "Favorites" list

I am truly jealous...when I look at my "favorites" list in IE7, everybody has a snazzy custom icon (including PCHF).

E-Bay has a colorful little "E-Bay", Google has its trademark "G", even the Weather Channel has a little "TWC" logo.

My site icon, on the other hand, has a nondescript little generic Explorer "e" that just screams to the world, "Scott doesn't know JACK about website creation!!"

I wanna BE sombody!! I WANNA BE SNAZZY TOO!!!

Hi scott,

It's quite simple really. If you have created your own icon, save it as favicon.ico, and save it in the root your your web site. Then, when anybody adds your website to their favourites, they will see this icon along with your name.

Alternatively, if you have your icon saved somewhere else, under a different name, you can use this code between your <HEAD> </HEAD> lines in your index.htm document:

<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="/your_directory/logo.ico">

Pardon my confusion but I am back after a few tries to do this myself

1) Where, exactly, is the "root of my website"? I created a folder called "Favicon" in what I am guessing is the "root"...(i.e.www.examplemysite.com), right next to the "images" and "photogallery" folders. All of the pages, include my "index" file are there...not sure where else could be more apt to be called "root"

2) In that "Favicon" folder I inserted my favicon.ico file (www.examplemysite.com/favicon/favicon.ico)

3) I added this line in the index html:

<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF=www.examplemysite.com/favicon/favicon.ico>

Sorry for sounding a little thick, but shouldn't this work?

Just an interjection from the Wolf, but you could consider Firefox Scott, the icons are built in, well on most sites anyway.

Sorry, by root, I main the very first/main folder. So the icon should be saved to:

www.examplemysite.com/favicon.ico
