Question Web site hosting companies

Hello all............

Does anyone have a good web site hosting company that you can recommend? Over the years, I've tried several and have yet to find a "good" one. The one I'm hosting with now had a server crash and old backup tapes! so when the new hardware was up, they installed an ancient version of our site.

The sites I'm working with are very simple html web pages (no databases) with images.

Thanks....................Matt

This totally depends on what you require from a webserver company?

My personal website is hosted on Streamline.net - The home of good value web hosting

Pros:
Cheap, unlimmited everything for only £33 a year.
Free Domain Name

Conns:
Their online control pannel is abit poor. However i dont use it. I have my ftp accounts and i use corp ftp to get access so never need to use it.

Give us a description on what you want your website to do, I.E if you need databases. Where about you want the sevrer to be located. Space/bandwidth usage and about what cost your willing to spend.

You want somethign very simple (actually read your post) probably streamlien is for you very cheap and relyable been with them 2 years no problems 99% uptime also. Just all depends.

Default web hosts

Like most guys that learn to build sites I imagine, the needs and wants are always growing.

When I first started, simple web pages done with tables was all I did. And really that's all I'm doing now, but I need to improve.

I need to be able to create forms so the site is more interactive with the visitor. I want a form that allows the visitor to provide feedback and tell us what they want. I've only done this once before on a different site with a different host and it was a major pain to debug and get right. And these forms aren't secure so what does one do if you want a secure form?

The next nature extension is to be able to have a visitor order something from us. That opens up the discussion to eCommerce. We already have a store front so we have manual credit card processing at our shop. To keep expenses down, I'd like to utilize that processing account (and not have to open an on-line account). There are other choices like PayPal but I've heard too many horror stories.

Other things that would be good to add: our own forum (perhaps), a blog (perhaps), on-line scheduling (perhaps), on-line chat (perhaps), etc. etc. I don't think I want to build a dynamically driven site (database). Seems more complicated and our site is not that large to have maintenance be a big part of the decision. But maybe someday, we'll be bigger?

So I'm looking for a host that can support me in all of these efforts. I will need help understanding how to use the resources available in the web server.

I have never really considered hosting my own site on my own hardware. That feels like biting off way more work than I can support.

Here's the address for our existing site: The Sanctuary

thanks.................................Matt

Any other reccomendations?

I have been using godaddy.com for a band webpage, and from personal experience with them they are horrible. They have managed to charge me on 4 seperate occasions for an automatic renewal/disk space upgrade that I never requested and when I triedt o get an explaination on it, it was a reply everytime from a totally different support rep that made it sound like they never even read the emails I would send, asking them simply how to get rid of the automatic renewals for extra disk space I didnt need and why I was charged.

Every response I have received from them just gave me the run around, they even gave me improper instructions as to how to cancel the automatic renewals, so they could manage to charge me again. I got fed up of wasting my time trying to get a simple explanaition for it and they refused to show any effort to help the situation so I am ready to cancel my account and go elsewhere. I would rather pay a bit more if needed then to feel like I am getting shafted by this company any further.

My account now is:
Bandwidth Allotment:
250,000 MB

Diskspace Allotment:
5,000 MB

Which is all that I need really. - I am also looking for places to buy domain names... any suggestions would be very helpful.
