Are you still in school by chance? If so, maybe you could take advantage of a programming class. I know my high school days (Pentium 90MHz was a great machine) they taught Turing. I don't have much knowledge myself so I can't really make a recommendation. I'd reccomend starting with webpages, they tend to be the most simplistic in my limited experience. It would be best if you decided exactly what you were thinking of working towards. Then finding out what language might be best and slowly work your way towards it.
