Default Creating a homepage, with my most used links & apps

Hi,

I read somewhere on a website, that computer proggramers make their own homepage for internet explorer, and include all their most used links and shortcuts to their favorite apllications inside their. I created my own html file, and set it as the homepage.

You can see it here:
http://www.bluevogue.com/diverse/homepagetest/quick.htm

But the only problem I have, is when i try to click an application shortcut, such as msn messenger for example, that "file download" popup shows up, asking if i want to save the file, open the file from it's location etc. This is really annoying, and i just want it to open the file. I think this is happening because i am inserting a hyplerlink to the application icon, and it should be done another way. Does anyone know the correct answer way to insert shortcuts to applications to a html file? I tried to drag and drop a shortcut from the desktop into the html file, but it said i needed some convertor, which i dont have, so instead i created the icons, and hyperlinked them to the file locations.

Cheers for any help in advance
Tim

:-) Hi Tim,

Welcome to PCHF. There are some really great people on this site, and I am sure that we can help you solve your problem.

Have you tried linking your files to the executible as opposed to the .gif shortcut? That should give you the results you want.

I'll check around and see if I can find any settings you could determine.

Thre has to be an answer to that... but in the mean time check this free utility out - it's awesome!! http://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/ - it will do exactly what you are trying to achieve (but not in a web page layout) and it looks really nice.

That objectdock program is awesome , cheers for that, but i also want to setup my homepage with some application shortcuts and weblinks etc.

tjnbarbour - I actually had them linked to the executables in the first place  I just tried linking them to the shortcuts and i get the same thing (the download dialog box) appears. There has to be some type of command out there, so that it can run the .exe rather then download it. Like a RUN command or something. I tried doing another search on google, but still no luck

Don't cry Allvogue, we'll keep searching. One of the guys is bound to know where the setting is.

If this problem is crackable, by gum by golly we'll crack it.
