Default Bootable DOS CD (bootdisk.com)?

Does anyone on this board have any experience with Ed Jablonowski's website dealing with making bootable CD's in Dos mode?

I can't find any way to contact him, and I am having trouble trying to make a simple bootable CD that will run DOS with additional utilities that won't fit onto a single floppy.

He provides an ISO file for such a CD ($4) , which I successfully burned (NERO 6) and was able to boot with, but, I needed to add a couple more dos apps to his pre-package Boot CD and I am not able to make mine bootable. Even though ISOBUSTER shows that my enhanced CD has the "bootdisk" folder with the very same IMG file (ames boot disk) that ED's has, for some reason, when I try to boot from it, it gives me an i/o error and won't boot.

So, maybe I am going about it all wrong. How do I go from here. I have an ISO file (from Ed) that can be burned (NERO 6) into a bootable CD and it works fine.

I need to add some applications, so I use ISOBUSTER to extract the files onto a new folder (on my C drive) and then add my applications into this same folder. I then use ISOBUSTER to extract the IMG file (ames boot disk) into a different folder to hold this IMG FILE.

Then I use NERO 6, and select make bootable CD, point the boot tab to my IMG file, then use the NEW option to "add to the compilation" all Ed's files plus mine, and then I burn.

I check it with ISOBUSTER and it *looks* the same as when I burned Ed's ISO file directly, but, mine just won't boot.

What am I doing wrong and how do I go about making this work?

Help.

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum

I have spoken with Ed many times. You'll find his email address here: Bootdisk.Com FAQ (at the top).

I tried that when I got my email from Ed. By simply clicking on the "THIS" reference, my system was immediately flooded with dummy tasks which froze up my system. It wouldn't reboot (infinitely loops on checking the h/d). I am having to re-install that PC and I had so many apps on it that are all gone now. I replied to Ed's original email to me about why he put this kind of system killing link on his webpage, but he has not responded. If you have a REAL email address for Ed, please post. I am on one of my older PC's now, and I can't risk another vitus attack like that. All I need is to find out how to add a couple of my own apps to the bootable ISO file I downloaded from his boodisk site. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about that. I only have the same email address for Ed too.

I also know that Ed would be horrified to discover that an item listed on his site was capable of causing errors or potential damage, he only ever wants to forward the "good" side of IT and related support.

Would something like Knoppix help you to achieve your objective here?
