My GF just bought a black 160gb ipod, we hook t up to the PC and it automatically ejects it, tried it in disc mode... and it ejects itself just as fast as it connected. After this we tried connecting it to my mac and it stayed mounted no problem, I formated it in mac and it went down without a hitch. Then when I plugged it into the PC, itunes actually mounted it and i was able to restore, but immediatly following, it ejected it. And now Im back to square one.
I plugged in my 5th gen 30gb ipod into the PC and it works just fine....

Ive tried various things that Ive found in forums from others with this problem but nothing seems to work, not to mention there are a lot of people with problems and no answers what so ever.... I'm really fustrated as I just spent the past month just getting the PC to run and now this AAAGGGHHH... Im so sick of hearing the connect and disconnect sounds! sometimes its even a few sounds smashed into one...

Can anyone help me??? pleeeeaaaase...

Note: I am plugging it directly into a Motherboard USB port and it is 2.0... the ipod can charge through it after windows ejects it automatically if i keep it plugged in... so i dont think its a power issue, and i have tried various ipod cords...

I have the latest itunes and all my windows updates are up to date...

*sigh* anyone?

systems specs:

Pentium D 805, 2.66 Ghz
3 gb Kingston Ram
intel D945Gccr Motherboard
Xp Pro

$400 paperweight

hi,
Yes I was able to update the firmware (1.1.1) immediately after I was able to restore it the one time, and it just automatically ejected it after that. The only difference it made was that it ejected it faster than before ha.
My Itunes is also up to date at 7.6.0.29
------------
The Ipod is a 6th gen. Classic Model 160gb model MB150LL

and I have SP2, thanks.

If you're having trouble with your iPod, try these steps (known around here as the five Rs) one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
  1. Retry your iPod with a different USB or FireWire port on your computer (please note that the latest iPods can only be synced through USB).
  2. Reset your iPod. To reset an iPod, iPod nano, or iPod mini, press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step. To reset an iPod shuffle, disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected), and then move the switch on the back of iPod shuffle to the off position. Wait 5 seconds, and then move the switch on the back to the play in order or the shuffle position.
  3. Restart your computer, and make sure that you have the latest software updates installed.
  4. Reinstall your iTunes software and make sure you have downloaded the latest version. Check your iPod software by connecting your iPod to your computer, and then in iTunes, select your iPod in the Source pane. Click the Summary tab, and the Version section tells you whether iPod is up to date or needs a newer version of the software. Click Update to install the latest version of the software.
  5. Restore your iPod by connecting your iPod to your computer, and then in iTunes, select your iPod in the Source pane. Click the Summary tab, and click Restore to restore iPod to its original settings. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the restore process. (Important: Please note that restoring an iPod will erase all songs and files on your iPod and restore it back to its original settings. Make a backup of any files on your iPod before restoring it. After restoring, you can transfer your music and files from your computer back to your iPod again.)
  6. Try resetting your iPod to solve common problems by pressing and holding the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

(Note: Please make sure that your iPod is fully charged and then toggle the Hold switch on and off before performing these steps.)
  7. Try updateing the USB,
  8. click on start scrool to my computer
  9. right click on my computer and scroll to ptoperties
  10. open properties
  11. click on the hardware tab
  12. then click on device manager
  13. open the USB devices and right click and update USB HOST Controllers
  14. click update driver
  15. choose option install from pesific location
  16. click next
  17. then choose include these locations in search
  18. uncheck floopy/cd rom
  19. check include these locations in this search
  20. type in drop down box C:\WINDOWS\system32
  21. clcik next.

Hi thanks for the reply, These area actually the very first steps I took as this is what Apple online support consists of... None of these steps helped unfortunately. I spent a long time on the phone with apple support and they seem to feel that this is a VERY unusual problem, despite the fact that there are tons and tons of people dealing with the same issue in the apple.com forums... hmm.

I only made it to tier 2 support and the lady basically told me to get a new one, but Ive read a few stories of people going though 3 or 4 exchanges only to just give up and get their money back... *sigh*

Yes I am afraid she is right. To be honest if you have tried all there help and still nothing working then have them to change it for a new one.
Xp in genral if a faulty device is connected it will eject it,shut PC down to save any damage being caused etc.

Get your money back or echange is my advice.
