trying to install xp pro

hi all im trying to install xp pro on me old fujitsu/seimens laptop which originaly had windows 98 on then a mate had put xp home on but i want to reformat wipe the hdd
clean and put xp pro on it,ive booting up from the external cdrom with the xp pro disc
in and it just loads win home up as normal,so i downloaded 98 ms-dos drivers to enabled
to boot up from external drive,ive also set the bios to boot the ext drive 1st but it dont see
the external drive.do i need a xp boot up disc or will i have to put win 98 back on and upgrade to xp pro,ive got the c.o.a sticker for win98 underneath the lappy for which i can reg the 98 o/s prior to xp pro

thanks for reply it dont boot from when i reboot i can manually set it going it then says
install xp,upgrade xp,repair xp etc

Download an XP Boot disk from Bootdisk.Com, and boot from that. . Under XP Quick Boot Diskette you want the exe file .

hi ive downloaded the quick xp boot diskette and extracted the exe file to a floppy rebooted nothing hapens just carries on loading xp home,do i need to download all of the xp boot diskette which is about 6 floppys or just the exe file

Hey there mate. use this to create a bootable floppy with usb drivers, it will tell you the usb drive letter on boot and you can then just go to (assuming D is the drive letter it tells you) D:\i386\WINNT.exe and it should install.

Use the exe to create the boot disk, don't just copy the exe file to floppy.

Make sure floppy is first on the boot priority list.

hi sorry for not being in touch i had net probs,i downloaded this file and ran it and it came up with this...microsoft startup menu

i clicked on usb bootand got this error

so i took it to me mate and he ran a ms98 se boot disk Fdisk itformatted it all and he said to me when i get it home i just need to connect externalcdrom drive andboot with me xp pro,so i took it home tried it but it came up saying please put the disk in so i got the ms98 se bootup disk on a floppy put that in rebooted then it came up with this
cdrom with support
cdrom without support
clicked on cdrom with support nothing happened,went into bios set it so its was floppy,cdrom,then hdd then rebooted still nothing happened just come up with

cdrom without support
any ideas where or what im doing wrong
