ok this may be a lazy way have read a few articles on oc'ing and get a bit confused.
got a good rig here specs as follows.
a8r32 mvp deluxe bios 0701 (socket 939)
amd fx 60 running at 2900 at present (not bad) stock cooler
2 x 1gb ballistix ram 400ddr
2 x radeon x1950 512mb crossfire
2 x 150gb raptor hd 10000rpm
1 x 160gb toshiba hd
1kw galaxy psu
big fan at rear
dual booting xp mce 2005 and vista(till issues are sorted with)
just would like to know if anyone out there has or knows of a system like mine and what is possible?
changing cpu fan is a problem on my board due to the northbridge heatsing being so close to the cpu.
would love to get this baby to mid 3000's

Hi slippy...upgrading is different for each computer - even if they are identical
The way the cables are managed inside the case effects it...if you have carpet, or hard wooded floors also makes a difference. The only way you can do it, is by going up slowly...until you get stable/where you want... I don't recommend O/C'ing as this will void your warranty.

Just as an experiment? Or are you having issues? You have some pretty serious gear-- already putting out a lot of heat I would probably assume a 120mm fan at rear (no others?) From what I've read-- this is a very 'tricky' board to go overclocking on--for an experienced user... not what you want to learn on. For any performance issues... there are probably standard tweaks that will fix them, and not beat on all that expensive gear. In fact -- this board is so new-- the BIOS has been updated several times-- and the board was released only a couple of months ago. Welcome to AnandTech.com [ Article: ASUS A8R32-MVP: Taking the Overclocking Route via the 0404] This article is in Anandtech... a reliable resource-- and these guys were only running a single video card-- not 2. Just reducing case temps... via more cooling/cable routing/increasing airflow-- could help a lot. I'm running more cooling than that-- and I don't have half that power. (front and rear 120 mm case fans-- and my PSU has a 120 also.) Keeps my feet warm

hi there thanks for reply and complement of my system. blush...
just started getting to grips with building my own pc's. had some bad experiences with past ones and they spent more time down the pc doctors shop than my home. so i eventually bought another from a certain specialist.uk for £2300 thinking well get all best bits on it and it'll be great....... oh nay oh nay...bsod regular as hell... more time at docs..(turned out to be a poor pc doc mind more spyware oriented than pc minded) so after that i thought ****** it i'll upgrade again. but this time do it myself. with help of internet guides and a bit of sense it is fairly simple...but when searching net i started reading up on oc'ing. and wanted to see how close a mere mortal could get to the 3d mark 06 scores. finally got to 10850..yey wanted to break the 10k barrier. wandering if this is a good score. with stock cooling. |

The thing about "benchmarking" scores-- is that they are often no real indication of actual Game-play Performance.
Do they give some idea of computer performance, probably-- though there is a faction -- who disregard even that. Some folks really compete just for these scores/bragging rights. With hardware like you have there --if you want to game --go buy a couple-- or try something like this: System Requirements Lab though it's probably overrated as a test --too |

i agree with everyone else pretty much. I seriously wouldn't worry about overclocking that rig, expensive components, too much of a risk in my view. my idea of overclocking is putting together a cheap system and seeing how far you can take it. if the performance is already there, like with yours, then I'd definitely settle for it.
if you do decide to go overhead with any o'cing, then yeah, make sure your case has sufficient cooling, i'm sure there are plenty of articles lying around about that particular subject. you could invest in a decent water cooling kit i suppose.
