anyone overclocked a system like mine? - Page 2

hi thanks for all the replys, i've taken them all on board, but i just want to see what my system is capable of. will be changing whole pc when amd's quad core comes out and am2+ and of course the hd 2900xtx which if i can save enough will try 2 in crossfire.

will be changing pc case today for a thermaltake kandalf extreme edition and have a asus silent square pro arriving too, so should safe up my components and keep temps down.

think i've got addicted to the 3dmark 06 benchmarking. although i do have probs occasionally with game choppyness when there's a lot happening in the scene. so am hoping to get machine stable at 3ghz if poss am running 2900ghz at present with stock fan with no probs but a lot of fan racket.

also am hoping the new case may cool my ram down as i'm unable to use it to its full bandwith. am running at 216 where it is capale of 250. ballistix ddr 2 x 1gb. noticed b4 that ram closest to cpu gets quite warm/hot which cant be good. and wont restart when put above 216.. will run at 250 when running at stock speeds however.

i have multipier on 14 and the ram is slightly faster but still has headroom to the 250 mark.

maybe rambling a bit here, better go to bed to much whisky.

cooling wise do you mean? absolutely. a well made case with sufficient room will allow for better airflow. also your cable management can affect how air flows through the case I think, I'm no expert on this sort of thing, someone else will tell you better. a good example case is the antec 9 hundred 'ultimate gaming case', it has a huge fan on top which can make things hover in mid-air lol.

i think cooling may be one of those things often overlooked by people, like the PSU. two intakes/exhausts may be a good idea.

my new case has a 12cm fan front n back 90mm fan at top and a 3 bay hard drive holder with fan on it.
seems the bees knees its also huge

also the cpu cooler is one of the best b4 watercooled, am frightened of water and electric..........
