Default Buying a new cpu

I posted earlier about an underclocked CPU.. I forgot to add that it freezes randomly.. im thinking about buying a new CPU alltogether because it wasnt a new one, just one I took from my friends old comp.

I mean.. my comp wont even load half the time.. so im thinking that buying a new CPU is the best approach, would I need a new MOBO too?

I think my current mobo has a 775 socket..

can you guys suggest a good cpu that isnt wayy above my head..

[im a part-time gamer]

Do you have the model number and manufacturer of your motherboard...that would be a great clue as to what kind of CPU you could aqquire without needing to build a completely new system.

One other thing that you want to remember is that while a CPU is pretty important for gaming it's the Graphics Card that will make or break the experience so if the new CPU doesn't play your new games as silky smooth as you would like, remember that a good video card and extra ram will go a long way towards improving performance.

If you can, I also recommend setting up your RAM in dual channel mode if your motherboard supports it.

Hi!

Find out your motherboard manufacturer and model no and check on their website, chances are it'll support a Core2Duo if its a 775 though it might need a bios flash.

Core2Duos are fantastic processors and not too expensive if you go for the low/mid range.

I do however highly recommend checking your other hardware, possibly see if you can loan a processor for someone, or take it to a shop and ask them to put a processor in it and do a burn in test as theres no point buying a new processor to find out there are other components at fault.
