Angry lost dvd drive

Hi.
hope someone can shed some light on this one.
about a week ago for no apparent reason my cd drive just disappeared from my hardware.
I thought that it must be worn out so I bought a dvd writer.
I installed it and the same error appears which is :

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

it appears whichever device i install!!
help.
regards
bob

Hello lecturerbob,

Welcome to pchf.

Can you check your devices in device manager.

- Go to Control Panel, System, Hardware Tab, Device Manager.

Are there any devices showing on the list with yellow exclaimation marks?

If yes:

- Right click on the faulty device, and then click on UnInstall.
- Finally, right click on your PC Name at the top above "computer"
- Click, Scan for hardware changes.
