Hi my laptop says it is connected to the wireless network, but I cannot access the internet or ping any websites that i have tried. It just stopped working a couple of weeks ago, other laptops are working fine on the same network.

I've tried rebooting the modem and router. I also tried ipconfig /release /renew etc and the first time it worked and I could access everything, then it reverted back to not working. Now trying /release and /renew isn't working at all.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it?

    Thanks

    Hello & welcome, r_those_my_toes!

Great screen name ;-) but I'll likely shorten it....

PCHF is a great community of helpful members & staff. The technical skillsket of both the members & the staff can't be beat ;-) I'm sure that we'll come up with an answer for you.

Could you check the IP address of the system with the problem? Is it a 169.154.x.x. address? Might you have another wireless card that you could try in that system? Will it connect wired? If so, could you try to update the driver for the wireless card?

    Thanks!

Re: Wireless connected but cannot access inte

There are several causes that can make this happen, but to advert the causes and focus on the solutions, here are a few things to try.

#1 Reset the System NVRAM. This is a bios function which may be performed by entering the system bios and resetting the defaults. When in there, check to see if anything states "Reset" or "Clear" the "NVRAM". When the bios tries to invoke a device into it's sleep mode and the NVRAM is corrupt, anything can happen. Not only that, this has worked for me many times in the past.

#2 Remove and Reinstall the device driver. Accessing the Windows Device manager by alt-clicking on My Computer and chosing Manage. There on the left you will see Device Manager. Next look under Network Adapters and find the Wireless Device. Alt-click the device and choose "uninstall". Once completed, you can now go to the top set of icons, or click menu item Action and choose "Scan for Hardware Changes". **NOTE** Before you do this it would be wise to get the Secured KEY to set the wireless network back up.

These work about for 75% of all of my wireless issues. I hope they work for you.

    Best of Luck

Hi guys, thanks for your suggestions I tried them all and so far nothing has worked.

In answer to your question, yes it does connect wired, and the IP address is 192.168.2.2

I updated the driver, and tried uninstalling it etc and still the same problem.

I appreciate any more suggestions you have?

Sorry, thought that you meant that was the IP for the wired.

Please boot into Safe Mode with Networking, by continuously tapping the F8 key as the computer turns on.

    Does it work?

Sorry, DCiAdmin, my fault, that is the wireless IP

Elpmek, its rebooted in safe mode, it cannot seem to acquire a network address at all now.

    Toes,

Sorry. Just confirmed that Safe Mode with Networking won't start Wireless.

Please boot back into Windows. When in Wireless mode, what is the gateway IP showing? Is it the IP of your router?

    Toes,

Will the laptop connect to any other Wireless networks?

Do you perhaps have a different wireless card that you might try in your network?

I'm wondering if your card itself might be the problem......
