    Hi Guys,
Need a little advice if you can help. Great forum by the way!
I’ve got a Dell Optiplex 760 with Windows XP installed which was having the following errors:
    1) Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) was corrupted and stopping the service from running. It was showing as @%SystemRoot%\system32\qmgr.dll, -1000.

Managed to repair the service but after rebooting it became corrupted again.

Due to this I was unable to run windows updates

    2) The firewall kept disabling itself when booting into Windows but would then enable itself again immediately.

    3) Wouldn’t let me do a system restore
As a result of this I rebuilt the PC by re-installing Windows XP and everything has been fine for a few days until the following as occurred:
    1) Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) was corrupted again and stopping the service from running. It is still showing as @%SystemRoot%\system32\qmgr.dll, -1000.

    2) The Network connection is very intermittent and keeps dropping out.

    3) Still won’t let me do a system restore.
Are these issues hardware related? I’ve ran a disk check and memory check and everything has come back okay. Could it be a registry error?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

welcome to the forum. it is very strange the same file is the problem. I would like to eliminate any malware from being the problem if you could look in my signature below and follow the links to the prework then submit the logs and let our team check you virus free before we try something else

    Thanks Samuria.

I'll post the logs tomorrow morning if that's okay.

I've ran Malwarebytes and AVG and both have come back clean. I'm not sure whether it's a window update that's causing the problems although that doesn't explain why windows system restore isn't working?

    Thanks

    Matt

    Hi Matt.
Once we get logs we can get a general idea of what's going on and figure out if something is messing with the registry services.

Please download FarbarServiceScanner and run it on the computer with the issue.

Make sure the following options are checked:
    Internet Services
    Windows Firewall
    System Restore
    Security Center/Action Center
    Windows Update

    Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Please download this registry file: here

You may need to right click > Save link as (not sure if your browser will attempt at opening it as a text file)

once downloaded, double click to merge with the registry > select yes at the prompt to do so. Reboot and re-run FSS so I can confirm the fix successfully.
