    Hi guys once again...

Daughters laptop is a Dell Inspiron M5010

She can't boot into any mode at start up. Pressing F8 gets her into all the boot menus but whatever is pressed the following message comes up.....

    'Windows error recovery'

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly. Start up repair can help diagnose and fix the problem."

Then the choice of highlighting either, 'Launch start up repair (recommended) ' or 'Start windows normally'...

Choosing either option, just goes back to the above 'Windows error recovery' status.

I have managed to get into the F12 boot devices and done diagnostic checks and these all have 'passed'..

As did a 'pre boot system assessment build 4129' test..( all part of the same test?)

Sounds to me like this could be big trouble...Any ideas chaps??...:)

    Hmm...

F11 gives no joy but F2 gives me 'Aptio set up utility' with 5 tabs...

Main, Advanced, Security, Boot and Exit....

    Any use?

Looking at the 'boot' tab, its showing as

1st boot priority [diskette drive] and
    2nd boot priority [Hard drive]

    Is this significant?

1 Turn on the computer, when the Dell Logo appears repeatedly press the <F8> key until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu.

2 From the Advanced Boot Options highlight Repair
YourComputer with the arrow keys and press <ENTER>.

    3 Click Next >
and login to your administrator account on the computer. The administrator account is the account created the first time the computer was turned on.

4 Click Dell Factory Image Recovery

Hi Moonman..Had already tried that...It says, ' windows is loading files, then the dell logo appears briefly with the options to hit F2 or F12, then goes back to the 'Windows error recovery' screen again.. :(

Hi Samuria. Daughter got it from new via Dell's factory outlet 2 months ago. Apparently they didn't supply any kind of disc or method of recovery. It has a years guarantee 'covering parts' only..
