    Hi there,

So last night my computer started BSOD and kept on doing this within 30 seconds ish of starting windows (after I've logged in and it starts to load programs etc).

I can log into safe mode no problems and it doesn't BSOD.

I've tried system restore and that doesn't fix it.

I've tried booting from a spybot CD but it didn't find any problems.

I haven't added any new hard ware recently.

I can't quite see exactly what the BSOD says but I've definately seen ataport.sys in there

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Ronnie

First info: you have some strange entries in your host file, probably a virus.

I'll check other files, but in the meantime, feel free to go into safe mode, BACKUP your most important data, then download this http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebyt...4572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button and this http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner

    Once both are installed:
    1. run ccleaner and do some cleanup, depending on your system state, it can cut AV scan times drastically and provide overall system speedups. Feel free to use the registry cleaner option as well.
    2. run MBAM, allow it to update and do a complete scan.

Once you're ready, run PCHF again and post the results here.

This is the only suspicious file I can see, I don't have any idea to what it could relate to, searching it on the web yields inconclusive results. Have you maybe installed anything new yesterday? You really don't have that much third party stuff installed, apart Lavasoft Ad-Aware.

Do you have a Huawei smart phone? And if yes, is it plugged into the computer while you're doing this? I know my phone will prevent my machine from booting up if left plugged in (not a driver related issue in my case, but probably worth a mention).

Just to confirm, all of this transpired in safemode?

The list of suspicious drivers is cut severely, basically the only thing that is left is the Ad-Aware driver. I think you'll have to wait for some of the experienced guys to look at this.

    In the meantime-
    1. do a CPU-z scan: just start the program from here http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/cpu-z/1.60-32bits-en.zip and save the report as a text file (from the about tab). Upload the report here.
    2. do a checkdsk run: open up the command prompt, type "chkdsk c: /R /X" and have it do it's thing. This is valid if C is your system partition.
    3. do a file integrity scan: open up the command prompt and type in "sfc /scannow". For this step you may need your windows setup DVD.

Morning, thanks for your help so far - hopefully we'll find the problem! I really don't want to do a full install as I do a lot of work on this same machine and whilst it's all backed up I don't really have a spare 2 days to reinstall all the software and set everything up!

Do you think it could be a hardware fault??

    Attached is the CPU file.

    Hi,
I did the checkdsk and nothing untoward was found and then di the sfs scan and it said that a few bits had been replaced. Still booting into full window and then BSOD within a couple of minutes..

    Any more help gratefully received!

That report is curiously light and uninformative.

When I asked about safe mode, I was talking about what you did in post 9, that is scanning with MBAM.

Did you follow steps 2 and 3 from post 11?
