    Hi Denis_Smith, welcome to PCHF.

I will mark this thread open for you to get any additional input from our excellent Technical Staff. However my first suggestion to you would to defrag your hard drive/s completely first and see if this makes a difference for you.:)

Hello Denis, and welcome back. Have you checked with your video card manufacturer to be sure you have the latest drivers? Driver Cure and similar utilities may help simplify things, but they aren't always ideal.

Also, were you using the latest drivers before you reinstalled windows? If you have an nVidia graphics card, it's possible your old drivers didn't support Ambient Occlusion. You can turn this off in the nVidia Control Panel (right click on the Desktop -> nVidia Control Panel) under 3D settings.

Ok, do you know the name of your graphics card.

Here are the lasted drives from ATI for you, They'll work with any Radeon card.

    Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM
    Please pick
ATI Radeon™ Video Card Drivers, then Windows XP 32-bit

Then download and install, try a game play and see what happens?

Based on your very limited hard disk space and the amount of RAM in your system, I recommend you do all of the following to improve overall performance. Then see if the games run better.

    1. Free up as much hard disk space as possible. If you're not actually going to play all of those games, there is no reason to have them all installed. You might want to consider installing a second hard disk if you do want them all installed at the same time.
    2. Defragment the hard disk after you've freed up hard disk space.
If the hard disk is fragmented and low on space and your physical memory (RAM) is all being used, it may slow down the system. Since the system has to keep running all over the hard disk to find free space, it will slow paging and affect performance whenever the memory is full.

Is the free space low on both of them? If not, you could also try to set the page file to run from the disk with more free space.

Either way, let us know the results and good luck!

PS I confused you with someone else. Ignore the Vista comments. My apologies.

Here is a detailed explanation of Disk Defragmentation and why you need to do it: Defragmentation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Try this:

    1. Click Start
    2. Click Run
    3. Type "sysdm.cpl" and hit enter.
    4. Click the "Advanced" tab.
    5. Click the "Settings" button under "Performance."
    6. Click the "Advanced" tab.
    7. Click the "Change" button under "Virtual Memory."
    8. Click on the "D:" drive under "Drive [Volume Label]."
    9. Make sure it is set to "System Managed Size" under "Paging File Size".
    10. Click on the "C:" drive under "Drive [Volume Label]."
    11. Make sure it is set to "System Manged Size" under "Paging File Size".
    12. Click the "OK" or "Close" button on each window until you reach the desktop.
    13. Restart your computer.
    14. Try gaming again.
Let me know if this helps any.

Also, while a game is running, minimize it (press the Windows key) and then press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to bring up the task manager. On the performance tab, check your Physical Memory numbers and post them here.
